Blue Devils Tickets

Blue Devils tickets bring with them a lengthy history of excellence on the hardwood. As an institute of higher learning, Duke University can trace its roots back to 1838, when it was known simply as the Brown School. Also formerly known as Union Institute, Normal College and Trinity College, Duke started their basketball program in 1905. They lost their first game in university history, falling to Wake Forest by a score of 24-10 that year under head coach Wilbur Wade Card. Under Card, the Blue Devils enjoyed their first 20-win season, which came in 1917. During those early years, they played many opponents in addition to Wake Forest, including Virginia, Furman, Tennessee, William and Mary, VMI and the school that would eventually become NC State. However, they did not play their first game against the university that is now their chief rival, North Carolina, until 1922. The final step in the foundation of the team was achieved in 1930, when Bill Werber became the first Blue Devil to win All-American honors.

Why Are They Called Blue Devils Tickets?

With the immense popularity of Duke's basketball team, Blue Devils tickets are constantly sold out. But have you ever wondered exactly why they are called the Blue Devils, or where the name came from? According to experts, the name has ties to a French World War I brigade called "les Diables Bleus," known for their distinctive blue uniforms and flowing capes, as well as for their prowess in trench warfare. While the university used names such as the Trinity Eleven or the Blue and White or the Methodists early on, the need for a new nickname became evident. Many options were presented, with Blue Devils serving as most popular. The moniker was initially rejected for use on the Methodist campus, but after student reporters started using the name in campus publications in 1922, it eventually caught on and became official.
